High-Solids, Two-Component, Water-Based Aliphatic Polyurethane
APF Polyurethane 501 is a high-solids, two-component, water-based aliphatic polyurethane that delivers performance properties equal to conventional solvent-based catalyzed urethanes, without the associated health and environmental concerns. It is VOC compliant in California, providing substantial improvements over first-generation catalyzed water-based polyurethanes. These improvements include higher film build capabilities, better chemical resistance, and resistance to hot tire staining, making it an ideal choice for high-performance coatings.
Advantages:
- Resistant to fuels and many chemicals
- Provides a hard, high-gloss, and easily cleaned surface
- Graffiti-resistant when used as a wall surface
Mixing Instructions:
- Mix only the amount of material that can be used within a 3-hour period at 77°F (25°C). Higher temperatures will reduce the working time, so smaller batches should be mixed in hot weather.
- Premix Part A before adding Part B. The correct mixing ratio is 2 parts of Part A to 1 part of Part B.
- Slowly add Part B to Part A while mechanically agitating with a slow-speed drill for 2 full minutes until completely homogenized. Material cannot be properly mixed by hand, so a small “squirrel cage” mixer should be used for small batches.
Application Instructions:
- Apply at 200-350 sq. ft. per gallon by brush, roller, or airless sprayer.
- Avoid puddling or accumulation in joint areas.
- Applications exceeding 200 sq. ft. per gallon may create bubbles in the cured coating.
- For multiple coats, if the material has cured for more than 24 hours, de-gloss with a black ScotchBrite® janitorial abrasive pad or fine sanding screen.
Shelf Life:
- One year from the date of manufacture in the original unopened container.
- Store in a cool, dry place between 50°F and 85°F (10°C – 30°C).
- Do not allow the material to freeze.
